The Malcolm Harris Award is presented in recognition of the most outstanding clinical case report submitted and presented at the annual MAOMS Scientific Conference.

The award celebrates excellence in clinical judgment, diagnostic skill, and the effective presentation of complex or significant cases that advance knowledge and practice in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Professor Emeritus Dr. Malcolm Harris

An esteemed figure in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Professor Emeritus Dr. Malcolm Harris is widely recognized for his pioneering contributions and unwavering support of postgraduate education and clinical excellence in Malaysia.

Statement of Significance

The Malcolm Harris Award honors the enduring legacy of Professor Emeritus Dr. Malcolm Harris, whose lifelong dedication to excellence in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery continues to inspire generations of clinicians and educators in Malaysia and beyond. This award seeks to foster a culture of clinical rigor, innovation, and academic engagement among both emerging and experienced practitioners in the specialty.

SELECTION CRITERIA

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• Open to dental professionals, including postgraduate trainees, who are registered participants of the annual MAOMS Scientific Conference.

• The submitted case must be directly relevant to the practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

• Submissions must be original, with appropriate patient consent and adherence to ethical standards.

 

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Case report submission and presentation will be reviewed by a panel of judges  appointed by the MAOMS Scientific Committee, based on the following:

 

• Clinical Significance (25%) – Relevance and impact of the case on clinical practice.

• Presentation Quality (20%) – Clarity, structure, and effectiveness of visual and oral delivery.

• Diagnostic and Management Approach (25%) – Innovation, sound clinical reasoning, and decision-making.

• Learning Value (20%) – Educational merit and potential to inform or improve practice.

• Originality (10%) – Uniqueness or rarity of the case and its management.
